Over the past decade, UROP has awarded over $4.5 million in scholarships to over 1,000 students. This scholarship is funded by research grants and donations from various industries. Research grants fund the majority of the scholarship money, with donations from industries such as aerospace, biotechnology, and energy contributing smaller amounts. The scholarship money is distributed to students pursuing research opportunities in various fields, including life sciences, engineering, and computer science. UROP scholarships are merit-based, meaning that students must meet specific requirements to be eligible. Students must have a minimum GPA of 3.0, be enrolled in a participating institution, and have a strong research proposal. The research proposal is a detailed plan outlining the student’s research project, including goals, methods, and expected outcomes.
